Local television network, Baba Television Uganda have distanced themselves from the circulating rumors suggesting that the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president, Eddy Kenzo was eyeing to buy the station.
In a swift response, Baba TV have denied the rumors claiming they are a kingdom owned station and therefore cannot be owned by another private person. Initially, the rumor was first shared by Kasuku, a YouTuber and media analyst.
Kasuku alleged that Kenzo, with support from the government stimulus package, was on the lookout for a television station to acquire. Kasuku further alleged that after an unsuccessful attempt to buy Nyce TV, Eddy Kenzo turned his attention to Baba TV with a proposed buyout offer.
Baba TV clarified that they had indeed engaged with Kenzo but only in a discussions about potential shareholding, not full acquisition.
The station affirmed its continued commitment to its current ownership structure, highlighting its affiliation with Busoga Kingdom, which owns Baba TV. The discussions revolved around providing a platform for Ugandan music and providing affordable airplay for artists.
In a statement posted on their Facebook page, Baba TV dismissed the rumors as baseless and false.
